Spread the love

Skincare is essential for maintaining healthy, radiant skin, but numerous myths can lead to confusion and misinformed practices. In this guide, we’ll address some of the most common skincare myths and we’ll be debunking the truths behind them.

Myth 1: You can shrink your pores

You cannot shrink your pores by applying some product. The appearance of pores can be minimized but pores do not shrink.

Myth 2: You Don’t Need Sunscreen on a Cloudy Day

Even on cloudy days, up to 80% of the sun’s harmful UV rays can penetrate your skin. Sunscreen is a must every day, regardless of the weather, to protect against premature aging and skin cancer.

Myth 3: The Tingle Means It’s Working

Feeling a tingling sensation when applying a product does not necessarily mean it’s effective. It could indicate irritation, especially if you have sensitive skin. Always do a patch test when trying out new skincare products.

Myth 4: You Don’t Need to Moisturize If You Have Oily Skin

Every skin type needs moisture, even oily skin. Moisturizers help to keep the skin’s barrier intact and prevent water loss. For oily skin, opt for a lightweight, non-comedogenic (won’t clog pores) moisturizer. Remember- Not using a moisturizer can make your skin more oily.

Myth 5: You Should Scrub Harder to Get Clean Skin

Over-scrubbing can damage your skin and strip away natural oils, leading to irritation and even more breakouts. It gives you small tears or scratch on the skin which finally leads to scarring of the skin. If you are using it on acne prone skin or sensitive skin, there is higher chance of increasing acne, redness, inflammation, or irritation to the skin which will lead to hyperpigmentation, skin darkening. Gentle cleansing is sufficient to remove dirt and makeup from the skin.

Myth 6: facial only clear your skin

Facial once a month cannot clear your skin. Facial is the additional care to your skin and facial alone is not enough for your skin. You need to do skincare on a daily basis for a clear, healthy skin.

Myth 7: DIY skincare is Better Than Science based skincare

Many of us prefer diy skincare over science based skincare. But experts say that diy skincare is not as good as products that has been made in skincare labs. Diy skincare does not have any preservative in them so you don’t know if your diy grows mold or lose its ability.  Whereas skincare products that are made in labs have preservatives. Preservatives help in preserving the contains of a product so that it does not grow mold or lose its ability to help the skin and we get maximum benefits.
