Debunking Popular Skincare Myths- Part II

In this guide, we are going to discuss more popular skincare myths and debunking the truths behind them.

Myth 1: The Higher the SPF, the Better the Sun Protection

While higher SPF does offer more protection, it doesn’t scale linearly. An SPF of 30 blocks about 97% of UVB rays, and an SPF of 50 blocks about 98%. No sunscreen can block 100% of UV rays, and higher SPF values offer diminishing returns. It’s more important to apply sunscreen generously and reapply every two hours, regardless of the SPF.

Myth 2: Blackheads are dirt from outside

Blackheads are not dirt accumulated from the outside, It’s actually the oil trapped inside which changes color to black.

Myth 3: Putting toothpaste on acne can heal your acne overnight

This is one of the most popular skincare myths. Acne does not heal overnight if you put toothpaste on it. It can aggravate the problem. It can be harsh or irritating to the skin. Instead of putting toothpaste you can use acne patches overnight. Acne patches are little patches which you put on the acne and leave it overnight.

Myth 4: Expensive Skincare Products Are Automatically Better

Price doesn’t always equate to quality in skincare. Some expensive products may be better, but there are also affordable products that are equally effective. It’s more important to look for scientifically proven ingredients that are suitable for your skin type.

Myth 5: Natural or Organic Products Are Always Better
Just because a product is natural or organic doesn’t mean it’s safer or more effective. Some natural ingredients can be harsh or irritating to the skin. It’s important to evaluate skincare products based on their specific ingredients and your skin’s needs.
Myth 6: Exfoliating everyday makes your skin better

When you are newly introduced to exfoliation and you start to see results, it is easier to get carried away and we start using too much. We should be more careful with exfoliation because less is more. Exfoliation removes dead skin cells, when we exfoliate too much our skin sheds all the dead skin cells and also destroys the new cells that the skin generates. If you are exfoliating regularly it can irritate your skin.

Myth 7: Frequent face washing clear the skin

Frequent face washing does not clear your skin. It can make your skin dry. Cleansing twice a day is ideal for the skin.

I hope you make better choices on healthy skincare and does not believe in these myths discussed above.
